Gunpei Yokoi was a Japanese designer and producer who joined Nintendo in 1965 and spent three decades leading hardware and software development in its R&D1 division. His teams established Nintendo's handheld business through Game & Watch and Game Boy; after leaving Nintendo in 1996, he founded Koto Laboratory.
